Goodies from the Provence with L’Occitane- Zanedo August 2016 Box

Let me shamelessly plug my previous boxes’ posts!

My first foray into beauty subscription boxes was with Zanedo Dubai, which seems to be into skincare – I’ve got Crabtree & Evelyn, Alessandro and The Body Shop, with a suprise gift of Dr. Manuka lip balm and Dessata comb.

Then there’s the “Esthetic Sense” Glambox Special, in which I got (tiny) samples from Jane Iredale, Davines and Dermalogica.

Not to mention, a sneak peak (and preliminary review) of Glambox’s Korean Special!

Now, I’m done… back to regular programming!

So…. a fellow Instagrammer and Zanedo subscriber has already received her mini truck of goodies. Yes, a mini-truck of goodies from L’Occitane! The Universe must be conspiring to just hand me things from this brand I’d like to try at such reduced prices!

Why I am getting excited? L’Occitane is a French brand that uses natural or organic ingredients in their bespoke products. They are expensive for average people like me, and this month I’m gonna try these yummy goodies.

From Zanedo Facebook Page:

My Own L’Occitane Yellow Truck

  1. Amande / Almond Shower Oil  – 75ml
  2. Aromachologie Repairing Shampoo – 75ml
  3. Cherry Blossom Perfumed Soap 75g
  4. Shea Butter Hand cream – 10ml
  5. Shea Butter Foot Cream – 10ml
  6. Divine Cream Mask sample sachet (2)
  7. Amande / Almond Milk Concentrate (body) sample sachet (2)

    Amande / Almond Shower Oil

It is hard to wrap one’s head about the idea of oil used to clean. However, shower oils convert into a cleansing and moisturizing foam upon contact with water — sounds magical to me! Anyway, a little drop goes a long way. Lather on wet skin and it leaves a gourmand scent and silky feel on the skin. Yummy, if you don’t overdo it.

Repairing Shampoo for Dry / Brittle Hair

This shampoo is purported to help prevent hair breakage with its five essential oils (ylang-ylang, sweet orange, lavender, geranium, angelica), amino acid and Vitamin B5. The scent is herbal and it does not lather much. It leaves hair soft without the chemical squeaky clean.

    Cherry Blossom Perfumed Soap

Simple soap with 13 ingredients, less than most soaps! Still it does the job of cleaning the skin and leaving a subtle floral scent. Look at the “engraving” on the soap, so cute.

Shea Butter Hand and Foot Creams – 10ml each

The Hand and Foot Creams consist of 20% and 15% shea butter, respectively. Meaning, our overworked hands and feet gets ultra-moisturized! Hand Cream smells like honey, almond and jasmine, while the Foot Cream smells relaxing with arnica and lavender. Again, a little goes a long way.

    1. Foot Cream has this overwhelming pungent spicy scent that mellows down to a sharp lavender scent.
    2. Hand Cream feels thicker and has a much toned down scent. It was supposed to be honey, almond and jasmine but the overall note is almost powdery-floral. Must be the jasmine.

    Divine Cream Mask

The “Divine” miracle cream is actually a lightweight anti-aging cream infused with the essential oil of the immortelle flower from Corsica, France. We refer to immortelle flower as everlasting or helichrysum. Upon Googling about this essential oil, just looking at the long list of things it can to one’s health, it is no wonder it is sought after as costly oil.

It was a thick white cream with a consistency like many night-only creams. Upon application, a scent reminiscent of simple flowers and grass, freshly rained over, of petrichor wafting into my nose, and there was an instant brightening / whtening effect on my skin (or was it the thick cream’s trick?) Aaaah I love the smell, it was different.

    Amande / Almond Milk Concentrate

“Enriched with powerful almond extracts, our Almond Milk Concentrate melts into the skin in a creamy and silky texture, to help skin look more smooth.”

This one is an almond-smelling body moisturizer. A little also goes a long way. I love its strong scent, but given that my nose is less sensitive, well it must have been overpowering.

Verdict: I feel like being pampered in a idyllic chateau somewhere with the fields on one side and the forest and mountains on another. The scents are just different, as if they were hand-made a few minutes ago. All items do their job well even with just a tiny drop, attesting to its high quality and potency.

The retail price for this item is AED 129 but I got it for AED 63 through Zanedo. I really love subscription boxes for giving us the chance to try such bespoke brands at a low price! I have been wanting to try L’Occitane products but I get put off by the prices. This might just push me into trying them out, at least on sales! It might be expensive as a natural skincare brand but the potency of every little drop seems worth the splurge 😀

    I’m all aboard!
